Does Thanksgiving affect your weight loss and diet goals?

Thanks giving is around the corner and most of us are excited about variety of good food. We all know that what we weight on the scale is a largely dependent on what we eat. That leads me to think that we probably put our healthy eating habits aside during the holiday season. I also know that some people prepare work on losing a few pounds in preparation for the weight gain during the holidays.
I am curious to find out, what you do or think about this idea of gaining weight and losing over Thanksgiving and the holidays.
Should we even be talking about weight loss knowing very well that this is the season and probably the only time when most families get together to have a great meal and have quality family time? Is it possible to find a middle ground between trying trying to eat healthy while not seeming too good to enjoy delicious family recipes?
Quite a few questions there. They just keep coming to me. A commet on any of the above questions is greatly appreciated.
